Activity holiday in Ritten, South Tyrol

From vineyards to mountain peaks

A winter wonderland on the Rittner Horn. Long summer days in the mountains. A magical burst of colour in autumn. An endless sea of flowers in spring. Here on the Ritten, every season has something special to offer. Surrounded by vast meadows, the view stretches as far as the impressive mountain peaks of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which dominates the horizon. There are over 300 days of sunshine here. All around you, nature beckons you to get up and go.

Bolzano’s own mountain has long been a retreat for those in search of tranquillity. Discover Ritten for yourself and find your very own favourite spots.

Here are a few of ours.

Lengmoos earth pyramids

The Lengmoos earth pyramids are right around the corner from the apartments. These bizarre formations in the landscape are 10 to 15 metres high and around 25,000 years old. They consist of raised, cone-shaped clay structures topped by a lump of rock. Impressive, right? They are just a 15-minute walk from our doorstep.

Hiking

From the sunny slopes in Oberbozen to the lofty heights of the Rittner Horn conservation area. The best hikes start right in front of the Alpenglow Apartments, past larch forests and vast meadows. The hiking trails in Ritten span a total of 400km. No holiday here is complete without discovering everything summer has to offer. And one summer often isn’t enough to see it all! So, slip on your hiking boots and off you go.

Biking

The region surrounding the Alpenglow Apartments in Ritten can also be discovered by bike. Routes range from leisurely to strenuous, with everything from easy paths through vast meadows and historic towns to diverse mountain trails.

Mountain bikers and e-bikers welcome. With 300 days of sunshine per year and a Mediterranean climate, you can cycle in Ritten almost all year round.

Swimming in Wolfsgruben Lake

This little lake on the Ritten enjoys an idyllic setting on the edge of the forest and is one of the purest freshwater lakes in Italy. In summer, young and old join together at this natural gem for a dip in the refreshing water and to relax on the sunbathing areas at the edge of the forest.

Wolfsgruben Lake is around a 45-minute walk. If you would prefer to drive, you can park in the large car park for free. In winter, the lake completely freezes due to its size and depth and is then a real highlight for ice skaters.

Archery

Robin Hood, eat your heart out! Hit the mark on the sunny plateau of Ritten with archery at Parcours Rainbow in Oberbozen or Bogenparcour RiArco in Oberinn. With its large 3D course, the archery trail in Oberinn is unique in South Tyrol.

Take your bow and arrow through rough and smooth terrain with just one aim: hit all 65 3D animals. It requires total concentration and a steady hand. Suitable for beginners and pros alike.

The magic of the Christmas markets

Every year, at the end of November, the villages and towns in South Tyrol get spruced up to prepare for the magic of Christmas. Experience a very special Christmas market in Oberbozen and Klobenstein on the Ritten.

The aroma of gingerbread, mulled wine and traditional treats wafts from the little Ritten train carriages.

Ab auf die Piste

The Rittner Horn ski area is small and refined. Here, you can enjoy 15km of wide, prepared pistes, a gondola lift and three ski lifts, leisurely winter hiking paths through the romantic winter landscape, a snow park for the little ones to let off steam, well marked-out cross-country ski trails and exciting sledging tracks with lots of sunshine. What a fantastic backdrop – the view is simply breathtaking.

Discover Bolzano

Our super location in the heart of South Tyrol is the perfect base for excursions to other lovely places. Of course among them is the regional capital of Bolzano. A bus goes from right outside our house and takes 25 minutes to the city centre.

A walk through the city takes you through the historic arcades and past pretty building façades. Then time for an aperitivo lungo with colourful cocktails and Italian delicacies. How fancy!
